How to make Sawmill Breakfast Gravy

Breakfast is not complete without a nice flavor of broth on freshly baked cookies!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of breakfast sausage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1/4 cup fat drippings
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper or to taste
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausages in a cast iron pan until well done.
  2. Lift off the pan and pour everything away, except for a quarter cup of fat.
  3. Turn off the fire to prevent it from burning and add the flour to the crusts.
  4. Cook the mixture and stir over medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes or until the mixture begins to turn golden brown. (This burns the raw flour taste that must be done before entering the liquid)
  5. Add the milk slowly with stirring constantly.
  6. Cook the broth until it boils and thickens.
  7. Sausages can be added to the broth. Add salt and pepper as the broth approaches the required consistency.
